Talk Talk - Hammersmith Odeon (08.05.86)

You rarely (read never) find a link to download Talk Talk bootlegs, so hopefully this one will generate some interest. Recorded on 8 May 1986 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, this disc is also known as Talking Colours. This is the original broadcast version. There is another version in circulation which has Tomorrow Started and Renee tagged on to the end, however these tracks are actually from a gig on 11 July 1986 at the same venue. This offering is a cracking set, showcasing the band's excellent instrumentation.
Note that this set differs from the deleted London 1986 release on Pondlife. If you have a copy to sell or exchange, please get in touch.

01. Talk Talk (3:37)

REM - Demos (1990)

Out Of Time, released in February 1991, was the seventh studio album from REM and their second for Warners. It became their biggest seller to date, mainly due to the phenomenal success of Losing My Religion. Here's the demo disc of OOT. It's quite different and sounds even better than the final release. There's an excellent album outtake, It's A Free World Baby and two distinct versions of Radio Song. On the downside, there's no Endgame or Belong.
Enjoy.

02 Texarkana
03 It's A Free World Baby
04 Low
05 Radio Song
06 Country Feedback
07 Losing My Religion
08 Near Wild Heaven

Talking Heads - Demos (1975)

Thanks to Alex from the big country, I offer you Talking Heads with their CBS studio demos. Most of these songs were tidied up and appeared on Talking Heads : 77 (1977) and More Songs About Buildings And Food (1978). Four of the songs remained unreleased until the 1992 double cd compilation - Popular Favorites 1976 - 1992 Sand In The Vaseline. From memory the demo versions were used, so unfortunately I cannot make them available. That aside, I'm certain you'll enjoy the raw versions of the remaining songs.
The sound quality is superb.
Why not catch up with their back catalogue, newly remastered with bonus tracks and dvd. You'll pick most of them up for £6 or less (HMV online or Fopp).
Enjoy.

Crowded House - Finsbury Park (11.06.94)

Crowded House are back on 02 July 2007 with a new studio album, Time On Earth, available on Parlophone. I'll definitely add that one to my collection. To remind you of how good they were/are, here's an excellent set from 1994, performed at The Fleadh (Irish music festival) Finsbury Park, London. The inter song banter is most entertaining, with security coming in for special treatment. The best is reserved for a poor heckler, to whom the song Pineapple Head is dedicated. Madcap stickman Paul Hester (RIP) is missing from this performance, having decided to stay at home in Melbourne.
Two part zip via Sharebee for several downloading options.
Enjoy.

01. When You Come

As promised, here's the second part for your listening pleasure. The first track (10) happens to be my favourite REM song. As an added bonus, I've included another rendition of Imitation Of Life, which was recorded two days earlier at Nulle Part Ailleurs show, Canal + Studio, Paris.

REM - Black Session, Paris (07.05.01)

REM arrived in Europe in May 2001 to plug their new album, Reveal. They recorded a Black Session at Studio 105, La Maison de la Radio in Paris. I've encoded this one at a hefty 320kbps, so I'll need to upload it in two parts. I've used Sharebee this time, to give you several downloading options and to keep the links going a bit longer. The sound quality is excellent.
Enjoy.

01 Imitation Of Life

Ed Kowalczyk - VH1 Studios (March 2006)

Ed is the voice and creative talent behind Pennsylvanian rock band LIVE. They are huge almost everywhere other than in the U.K. Last year Ed performed stripped down versions of four LIVE hits at VH1 Studios. Highly recommended listening. The second album, Throwing Copper (from which Lightning Crashes is pulled) or the greatest hits package, Awake are good starting references if you wish to hear more. I'll post a LIVE concert in the near future. Get your ear plugs at the ready!
Enjoy.

01 Heaven
02 The River
03 Mystery
04 Lightning Crashes

Paul Weller - BBC Radio Theatre (23.04.01)

This concert was broadcast by BBC Radio 2 from the Radio Theatre, London in front of a specially invited audience of fans and competition winners. This fulfills a request for my brother, Alan. Changing Man not on the set list, however a superb version of That's Entertainment should make up for that. If you like this I suggest you buy Days Of Speed, which collates various live acoustic tracks from Weller's 2001 global tour.
Enjoy.

Madness - Hammersmith Odeon (23.12.80)

This concert is tagged as Hammersmith Palais, London (19.12.81). According to the excellent Madness Information Service Online (visit it at http://www.mis-online.net/index.html) it took place at Hammersmith Odeon on 23.12.80. These are two distinct venues, however the set list is the same. Due to the absence of Grey Day, Shut Up and It Must Be Love, which all charted in 1981, I would concur with MIS Online. Irrespective of that, it sounds great.
Enjoy.

Placebo - OuiFM, Paris (06.03.06)

This is a radio broadcast from Oui 102.3FM, La Cigale, Paris. It took place exactly one week prior to the release of Meds and features 9 of the 13 tracks from the standard cd issue. Also included is a superb version of a Kate Bush song. The DJ interrupts at the end of a few tracks, which is a pity, however it is funny to hear him pronounce 'Plass-ee-boo.' This one's encoded at 256kbps.
Enjoy.

The Cranberries - WNNX Studio (19.08.94)

The Cranberries are featured here in a short acoustic set for WNNX Studio in Atlanta, Georgia. There are 35 Cranberries' boots in the vaults. I chose this one at random and I'm happy to report it sounds great. Encoded at 192kbps.
Enjoy.

Wednesday 7 March 2007

Dexys Midnight Runners - Rockpalast (16.04.83)

Dexys are far better live than in the studio, as demonstrated here at Rockpalast, Grugahallen, Essen (Germany). This gig lasts 77 minutes and at 192kbps, sounds great. Whenever I hear track 9, I always think of the Top Of The Pops gaffe when Kevin sang to a backdrop featuring a rather rotund, grinning, toothless, Scottish darts player. Classic! Download in 2 parts due to size of file.
Enjoy.

Goldfrapp - Paradiso (30.05.06)

Paradiso is a converted church in the heart of Amsterdam. It is probably the main music venue in Holland, attracting top performers. Goldfrapp returned here last May, after a 3 year absence, to play a 40 minute set. The sound quality is excellent.
Enjoy.

Teenage Fanclub - White Session (11.04.95)

This file is tagged as a White Session (session acoustique) at France Inter. I'm not sure if this is quite correct, however here we have 3 vocalists taking turns at singing their own compositions. The Byrds meet Big Star with great tunes and harmonies. Track 6 is a Creedence song.
Enjoy.
